Halong Bay

Just back from a 2 day trip ro Halong bay. Went on a tour with 17 other people, Germans, French, Spanish, Austrialian and Vietnamise - everyone v friendly. 3 bus hour journey from Hanoi to the bay where our 'junk cruise' was waiting (thats what they call them!). Had lunch on deck and cruised around the bay for a couple of hours - beautiful scenery. Next we went to see an "amazing" cave and then we all went Kyaking - even me!There were 2 of us in each kyak and the poor fella who was with me had to do all the work because I was terrified to move in case I would fall in! It was great though, we kyaked around the bay and past a little floating village (people who live on house boats). Went swimming after and the water was warm - it was lovely because its very hot and clammy here, mostly overcast. Back to the junk then to watch the sun go down with a pina colada - happy days!

    Hi T. I'm so envious. The bay looks real special. The idea of you in a two man boat bobbing up an down in the water makes me laugh. Why would a strapping girl like you be afraid??

    I'd settle for hot an clammy weather as we have just gone back to rain and cold here. What was the cost of the excursion? Hope it was the usual low Vietnamese prices. Did you look for a student's discount. Wouldn't put it past you.

    The photos are great but you didn't take any in the cave??

    Did you get a glimpse of the real countryside on the bus trip to the bay? Was it what you expected?

    Cabin looked very clean and tidy but who was in the second bunk????

    Where to next? Meant to ask if to had any trouble with your online entry visa?

    Keep enjoying yourself - your only young once. Wish I was there as well.

    Kilkenny murdered Cork last Sunday in Croke Park. You should text Norma and tell her there was great excitement in Hanoi at the result. Up to your lads now to beat Tipp!!!

    Yo Anonymous! Reason I was scared in the kyak is I cant swim!No probs at all with online visa, worked really well, only took 5mins at airport and 50 USD!
